Having worked as a media specialist in an elementary school, I am familiar with the books of Maurice Sendak. I was saddened today to hear that he passed away this morning at age 83. Coming home this afternoon I heard an old interview with him on NPR. (National Public Radio) I learned many new things about the man I never knew before. It was a touching tribute to the man who entertained so many children.
"I have nothing now but praise for my life. I'm not unhappy. I cry a lot because I miss people. They die and I can't stop them. They leave me and I love them more. ... What I dread is the isolation. ... There are so many beautiful things in the world which I will have to leave when I die, but I'm ready, I'm ready, I'm ready." -Maurice Sendak
